Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

UNC Charlotte Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) invites students to identify their gender identity and does not require students' identification be tied to the sex/gender that is listed on other university records.  Students are allowed to indicate that they "prefer not to answer" in response to questions regarding their gender identity.

CAPS provides short-term individual therapy, with most students utilizing between four and six sessions.  When long-term therapy is indicated, CAPS will assist students in connecting to community resources.  All staff members at CAPS are able to provide therapeutic support to assist students who identify as trans and/or with other gender expansive identities with topics related to their gender identity and any potential transitions (including letter support for gender affirming medical treatment and other gender-affirming referrals), as well as with any other current concerns including, but not limited to, relationship difficulties, mood/anxiety concerns, and academic concerns.  In addition, the following staff have a particular interest in working with trans students: Dr. Terri Rhodes, Dr. Erica Lennon, Dr. Libby Malone, Dr. Emily Brown, and Dr. Daniela Recabarren.

For more information, visit CAPS or call 704-687-0311 to make an appointment. CAPS is located adjacent to the Student Health Center at the corner of Cameron and Mary Alexander.
